Who is eligible for Walla Walla Online?
Walla Walla Online is offered specifically for K-12 students who may need an alternative setting for health/safety reasons, are currently participating in an alternative educational experience outside of the school district (e.g. another online program, home schooled), or who may experience better learning success in an online delivery model vs traditional.
When can I transfer and/or begin my Walla Walla Online school experience?
Like traditional school, students should enroll in Walla Walla Online before the start of the school year. Coursework is specifically programmed and tailored for a year-long experience so a commitment to attend the entire school year is the expectation. However, students may be permitted to enroll or transfer back to a traditional school at mid year/semester.
If I attend Walla Walla Online for a semester or entire year, will I be able to transfer back to my school?
Yes. Families who currently attend a traditional Walla Walla school who choose to enroll in WW Online and transfer back at the end of the semester or school year will be able to resume school within the building they formally attended.
Can I transfer into Walla Walla Online after I already started my learning in another Walla Walla School?
Post start of school transfers are rare and will be handled on a case by case basis based on individual student circumstances. Coordination with the student's school of attendance and Walla Walla Online staff will be necessary and should occur within 10 days after the start of school or semester.
Are there any costs involved?
No. A program offered under Walla Walla Public Schools, Walla Walla Online is tuition free. Students are issued a Chromebook to access their learning, and similar to the district’s traditional school setting, there are no additional fees involved.
Is the program open to students who qualify for special education?
Yes. If a student’s special education team determines that Walla Walla Online is an appropriate placement, the student can be served by the program. Learning accommodations, modifications and other services spelled out in the student’s IEP will be updated based on the delivery model and provided.
Is the program open to students who qualify for English Language(EL) services?
Yes. If a student identified as EL is being served in Walla Walla Online, language services will be provided in a variety of different ways to meet the learner’s needs.
Does a Walla Walla Online student have access to the district’s athletic programs?
Yes, as an enrolled student, a Walla Walla Online student is a member of the student body and has the same access to athletics and other student clubs/organizations.
If I don’t reside in Walla Walla Public School’s boundary, can I enroll in Walla Walla Online?
While the program was developed primarily to support resident students, on a case by case basis, non resident students residing in the Walla Walla Valley may request admission.
Is this for full time enrolled students?
Yes, students participating in Walla Walla Online are intended to be full-time students, taking a full course load.
Do Walla Walla Online students have access to classes at their neighborhood Walla Walla School?
In most instances, they do not. However, on a case by case basis, students enrolled in Walla Walla Online may be permitted access to classes that can not be delivered in an online environment. For example, select students may be permitted to participate in SEATech skills center classes, band, choir, orchestra, and career and technical courses. Transportation to and from their neighborhood school is the responsibility of the student/family.
Will Walla Walla Online students receive a high school diploma and be permitted to participate in graduation exercises?
Yes, Walla Walla Online seniors who meet Walla Walla Public Schools graduation requirements will receive their high school diploma and be permitted to participate in graduation exercises.
When can I enroll in Walla Walla Online?
Like traditional schools, families/students should choose to enroll at the start of the school year.
Can Walla Walla Online students participate in school assemblies, programs and other school-related events?
In most cases, no. As many of these events require in-school preparation, planning and coordination, this would not permit online students access to these events.
Will students have the opportunity to meet personally with teachers and support staff?
Yes. Walla Walla Online offices are located at 1917 E. Isaacs Ave. in Walla Walla. Students are encouraged to meet face to face with their learning coach on a regular basis.
Do students take statewide assessments?
Yes, all public school students in Washington, regardless of their educational setting, will take state and national assessments. These will often be administered at the Walla Walla Online facility.
